My Creative Team

by michellefilo 3. September 2009 02:39

So, I have been thinking about this for quite a while and decided it would be great to have a team to support me. I invited some friends that I thought were talented and could really help me grow as a designer, some of them designers themselves. There are many other people I wanted in my team, so many good friends, so many people that have supported me, so many extremely talented scrappers, but I figure I should limit it a little hehe, I tried to stop at 10 but could not hold myself, so I would love to introduce you to my 12 very very talented creative team members, scrapping with love:

Hybrid Feature - CD Album

by with love by mushy 1. August 2009 03:02

I don't know about you, but I have really bad luck when it comes to burning CDs and DVDs. They always get corrupt or don't work afterwards, that results in a big pile of scrap discs that I do not throw away because I know these are great basis for adorable little albums for any occasion. In case you are one of the lucky ones and don't have any scrap CDs you can buy a box of new ones pretty cheap nowadays, so don't use that as an excuse to not try this project hehehe

One of my latest releases at Little Dreamer Designs is a CD album template (if you are interested don't forget we have a sale at the moment):

 mushy_hybridmagic26_Preview copy

The fun thing about the template is that I have included a couple of different borders, so you can mix and match for a fun album or use the same border throughout the whole album for a consistent look, it depends on the project.

I was working on my share of the Fresh Lemonade collab while creating this template so I ended up scrapping our day at the Royal Canberra Show this year. I even used my own photos as inspiration for my papers so it all came together really easily. Before I show you the finished album, let's have a look at the process.

Creating a CD album

Create your pages digitally using the template above, if you are pressed for time I have created some quickpages and printables, but with a template you can use any kit for any occasion.

Once you do that you will need your printed out pages, scissors, mod podge, ring, and CD/DVD discs (and embellishments such as buttons and ribbons if you prefer). Print out your pages on Glossy Photographic Paper, this is what I use for vibrant colours (if you go for matte paper or any cheaper alternative DO NOT use mod podge as it will warp the pages and make your life difficult, use double sided tape instead). Cut out your pages using scissors or a craft knife.

IMG_3364 IMG_3366

Before adding your album pages to the disc, scratch it a little if possible, just to help the glue stay in the disc which has such a smooth surface. Apply a thin layer of mod podge and place your pages one by one, doing your best to align front and back designs.

IMG_3368 IMG_3370

After you have all your pages done and BEFORE you start embellishing, mark the hole locations on your pages and punch them with the crop a dile. If one is not accessible you can ask hubby or someone to drill the holes for you (crop a dile is way easier though, I know from experience!).

IMG_3371

I prefer to punch my holes on the sides. I am not comfortable with my other two albums that I have punched at the top, because I have created matching designs for the facing pages, but they don't sit next to each other. If you punch the holes on the sides than your album will read like a book.

After the holes are punched you just need to add a ring and some embellishments. I have left space on my album for real embellishments, including space for the title, but off course you can do all of that digitally and have the album ready as soon as you adhered the pages to the discs :)

Here is my finished project:

First official kit - Imagination + freebie

by with love by mushy 14. July 2009 05:11

Hi loyal blog readers :) Did I mention I am branching out with designing? Yeah, I have been *trying* to draw and *trying* to turn these drawings into pretty papers. After some play I have created my first kit and, let me tell you, it was a huge learning experience. I hope you like this and see it as a little sign of things to come (good things):

mushy_imagination_kit copy

20% off till Wednesday - Includes 20 watercolour patterned papers; 1 lowercase alpha + numbers; 15 handmade watercolour doodles; 2 journaling spots; 3 watercolour strips; 5 frames; 2 lined grids; and 2 brush files (one with doodles and one with the alpha)

These papers coordinate perfectly with my Sweet alpha collection, but I LOVE how the alpha for this kit turned out, really do, the solid version and the brush. Here are a couple of pages I and some good friends created with the kit:

worldofimagination copy

 Imagination_examplepages1

Imagination_examplepages2

Imagination_examplepages4

All made by hand, this is all mine, and that is why I am proud of it :) I actually went a little over board and created too many papers, I had a hard time selecting them for the kit and before I knew it I had 30 papers. So I have decided to give the solid papers away as a freebie:

Sweet Alpha

by with love by mushy 9. July 2009 05:24

So after drawing the alpha with watercolours, I literally spent days extracting, cleaning, recolouring, cutting each alpha (that took the longest), packaging and uploading it to the store.... phew. Learned my lesson, learned to create brushes and I am not so sure I am going to recolour my next alpha.... so, please let me know your favourite colour for next time!!! Here is my Sweet Watercolour Alpha Series, for a dollar each:

mushy_sweet_lipstick_alpha_thumbnail mushy_sweet_dreams_alpha_thumbnail

mushy_sweet_sky_alpha_thumbnail mushy_sweet_ocean_alpha_thumbnail

mushy_sweet_lemon_alpha_thumbnail mushy_sweet_sunshine_alpha_thumbnail

mushy_sweet_marmelade_alpha_thumbnail mushy_sweet_earth_alpha_thumbnail

mushy_sweet_fog_alpha_thumbnail mushy_ALL_sweet_alpha_preview-thumbnail

I have also provided an option for people to buy the whole pack at once and save 50% :) My favourite one is sweet sunshine, and it was also the most painful to recolour, I felt inclined to just redraw the whole thing :) but figured it out in the end. But yellow is probably not very popular so, as I said, you got tell me your favourite!

Lastly, I made these alphas because I *loooove* the soft and perfectly imperfect look of the watercolours and I really wanted to find a way to bring that quality to digital, so, I created a brush set:

 mushy_sweet_watercolour_brushes_ preview

As you can imagine, this took much longer than I expected and I haven't had the time to play with my own design yet... eeck! That's ok, this was a LOT of self promotion for a day anyway :)

Thanks for stopping by... now go.... scrap!

Playing with Paper - Set 11

by with love by mushy 26. June 2009 01:29

So good to be back to designing :) It is also another incentive to get my pages done, you know I like to "test" everything I create so the first thing I do when I finish a template is use it. Here are the two pages I created with my latest set:

12_whatplayground copy

Journaling: We moved to the new house and had to take your little playground apart. I was responsible for entertaining you two while daddy finished moving the big things into the house and as soon as we got outside you saw the parts of the playground on the floor and loved exploring and looking through the bits and pieces. Shame mommy put it back together again.

Journaling: Lucas, you absolutely adore bananas. You want them all the time, one after another. I don’t even think you will ever get sick of them. Lucky you have good appetite and will eat other things too. It is so good to see you eating healthy!!! xoxo mommy Dec’08

Hybrid Feature - Summer Scallop Album

by with love by mushy 24. June 2009 07:16

Since it is SUMMER for my friends in the US and I am freezing here let's see some sunshine, shall we?

A cool thing about this hybrid album (and very brave/out of the norm for me) is that I printed it on Matte paper. Now this might be normal for a lot of people, but matte paper has special uses for me. It is a lot riskier to use it with liquid adhesives like mod podge, so I avoid matte paper because of that, but sometimes I just want to have more texture instead of intense colours. In this case specifically, I wanted to add my own journaling, so I picked matte paper to make my life easier, as I would have to use specialty pens to write on the photographic paper and would still risk smudges (I pretty much smudge as I write, lol)

As promised, here is the finished album:

Like it?  Here is the template for 50% off this week only :)

and talking about sale, when I did a Hybrid Feature on my Train Album I forgot to put it up for sale so, today only, I am adding it to LDD's One dollar Wednesday :)

April fools' 1 dollar deal

by with love by mushy 1. April 2009 05:03

nah, I didn't really plan to have a sale on April fools' day, at LDD we have a 1 dollar sale EVERY Wednesday, so the only thing special about this Wednesday is... it is MY turn :)

Since I was talking about it in this post last week, today only, Fancy Flower Album for 1 dollar.

mmm I have news for April, I will be missing in action for most of the month, but I have an AWESOME giveaway coming up... but let's talk about that next week :) Suffice to say, April will be awesome :) What are your plans for April?

Before I go I wanted to share something kinda funny, a glimpse into the future?

Lucas in 2009:

IMG_7199-3 copy

Lucas in 2029:

future

LOL not really, April Fools' Day :)

This is my brother making fun of the whole scene I had with Lucas. I showed him the photo and was talking about how much I love it but have a hard time scrapping it and he said something like "wow, I like that, let's get one of me too" and I jumped into the opportunity, grabbed him by the hand and we walked up to the playground where I took the first photo. When we got there it was colder, later in the day (7PM as opposed to 6PM) and we had everyone waiting on us for dinner so I didn't really get what I wanted "photographically" speaking, but it is priceless isn't it? :)

EDIT TO ADD: TOOOOOOT

My album "Where is home?"  has been picked to be featured at the next Scrapbooking Trends Magazine Mini Album Ideas Book :) I am removing it from a couple of places I have posted the album. To celebrate let's add the Hybrid Magic no. 20 - House Album to the sale today - just 1 dollar. And nope, this is no April Fools' joke :) wohooo

New... everything

by with love by mushy 16. February 2009 02:04

2009 is really the year for new things, I lost track of the number of new things in my life. When I created this page for the Mix it up blog I had no idea how much that list was going to grow in less than two months. It has been crazy, but you know what? it has been rewarding!

We have changed our cart systems over at Little Dreamer Designs. So everyone needs to register in the new shoppe (which is just WONDERFUL from a designer's point of view). We know it is a hassle but of course we used the excuse to have a SALE of everything remotely valentines related, including a lot of new releases, everything is 25% off. And guess what you get just for registering in the new shoppe??? A stunning new collaboration kit:

My part in the collab is an alpha set, this is me having another go at designing LOL:

I am really curious to see if people will like it :)

I will be back soon to show you my new releases.
