While
fires ravage Victoria, we are safe and sound here in Canberra. We had terrible bushfires in Canberra about 4 years ago, but no houses were lost since. My heart goes out to the Victorian families who were lost and that have lost loved ones. I am hearing terrible stories of people getting burned on their cars while trying to escape. At the moment we have 108 confirmed dead and the death toll is expected to rise tremendously now that Fire Fighters are starting to check the burned up houses for bodies :(
We had a total fire ban here in Canberra this weekend, with high temperatures and past history of bush fires they have decided to close parks to minimise the risk of a fire getting started or people getting caught in bushfire. We didn't even notice as it was too hot to go to a park. We went to places where air conditioning is available and stayed at home most of the time.
Meanwhile we have flooding in Queensland and people have been lost there too. I tell you, the weather is crazy and I don't expect it to improve. With global warming and all we are doing to the environment, I think the retribution will continue and get worse every year. I am very scared, but I am lucky to never have witnessed anything serious, and even when I am in an affected area, we have always been away from danger.
I'll be thinking and praying for those still in danger, may He protect us all!
